Role of Technology in Community Pharmacy

Setting the Scene:

The profession of pharmacy has come a long way since the days of herbalist healers in ancient Babylon. Remedies from all sorts of maladies that were once inscribed onto clay tablets are now prescribed entirely digitally. Many processes that were paper- based even a decade ago are now done online. In the past, concerns about HIPAA and other regulations, while legitimate, slowed the development of new technology in pharmacy. However, current market forces, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and patient demand have led to a flourishing environment for new technology solutions within community pharmacy.
